Annual Maintenance Calendar

This month by month lawn care calendar is designed to help you understand the cycle of lawn care in a calendar year. Timing is given for a "normal" season in northeastern Ohio. Temperature and moisture levels may dictate a deviation from our normal calendar schedule...

  • January: Happy New Year!

  • February: Spring Clean-Up begins. Removal of sticks, leaves and debris from the lawn.

  • March: Spring Clean-Up continues. A one-time early spring mowing can be used to remove dead grass blades and encourage spring green-up. Regular mowing will begin at some point in late March, depending on the weather. Pruning & weeding plans begin. March is a great month to consider over seeding.

  • April: Mowing goes into full swing. It may be necessary to mow more frequently to keep up with quickly growing grass. Pre-emergent Crabgrass Weed Control & Spring Fertilizer application is applied. Pruning & weeding continues.

  • May: Mowing continues. It may be necessary to mow more frequently to keep up with quickly growing grass. Broadleaf weed control treatment begins. Pruning & weeding continues.

  • June: Mowing continues at a more normal pace. Grub Control & Summer Fertilizer application is applied along with post-emergent treatment for Crabgrass where pre-emergent was not used or was ineffective. Apply 1" of water slowly (in the morning) once per week to wet the soil to a depth of 6-8 inches. Pruning & weeding continues.

  • July: Mowing continues at higher height as grass moves into Summer dormant state. Apply 1" of water slowly (in the morning) once per week to wet the soil to a depth of 6-8 inches. Pruning & weeding continues.

  • August: Mowing continues at higher height. Fall Fertilizer application is applied in late August. Apply 1" of water slowly (in the morning) once per week to wet the soil to a depth of 6-8 inches. Pruning & weeding continues.

  • September: Mowing continues at normal height. Water when necessary. Aeration & Over Seeding starts. Starter Fertilizer utilized for new seed. Make sure to water new seed according to specified guidelines. Pruning & weeding continues.

  • October: Mowing continues at lower height in preparation for winter, but will end sometime in late October depending on weather. Last mowing is recommended to be cut at a 2" height to avoid snow mold. Aeration & over seeding ends on the 15th. Make sure to continue to water new lawn seed according to specified guidelines if necessary. Pruning & weeding continues. Fall Clean-Up begins.

  • November: Fall Clean-Up continues. Winter fertilizer application is applied as grass goes dormant for the year.

  • December: Happy Holidays!
